💡 Purpose

As part of my internship at the ADL's Center for Technology & Society, I've been researching design patterns and principles for social platforms that help to mitigate the spread of online hate.

These patterns and principles have been documented and published in our Social Pattern Library website so it can be shared out to social app product teams.

Our goal with this project has been to provide a library of responsible design pattern and principles for social app product teams so that they can design digital social experiences that are more conducive to civil discourse.

The patterns and principles in this library are collected from brainstorming sessions, recommendations from experts, and existing design patterns that are effective at mitigating hate on social platforms.

The Social Pattern Library website serves as an accessible and expansive resource for helping designers create more friendly social platforms.
